On August 23, 2016, the Transportation Security Administration, in conjunction with the U.S. Coast Guard, issued their final ruling on TWIC biometric standards. Affected organizations have two years to implement a biometric authentication system that complies with these new standards.

A quick google search will provide a plethora of information regarding what the ruling means, but few details on actual implementation methods. In fact, the ruling gives a lot of flexibility to organizations in regards to how they achieve compliance. This leaves it up to the individual organization to make sure it chooses the right path.
